Q: How did you get started working in your field?
Leeroy: My experience so far has been in construction and heavy industrial manufacturing for oil and gas, petrochemicals, and the wastewater industries. I really had no plan to join this sector in particular but when I was looking to first move to an international country I really just went with an opportunity that came my way. Construction, manufacturing, and industrial fabrication just happened to be the place!
Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?
Leeroy: I could easily say one of the common skills such as problem-solving which is really desired in most engineering jobs today is what I love the most but I think that just happens to be part of most jobs around. I love that my job can involve construction and manufacturing of anything honestly. Since this podcast and company that I follow so much specializes in pumps and equipment, in simple words, I oversee projects in construction and manufacturing of anything that houses or requires a pump for operation from chemical injection skids, wellhead control panels in the Oil & Gas industry to heaters and boilers. I also work on brownfield and greenfield maintenance projects and the variety of the scope of work of these is what I love the most that gives anyone ample opportunity for learning!
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?
Leeroy: Follow your passion but most importantly keep learning. You will always be glad that you learned something that you did not do before or learned to do better in a different way than someone taught you.
Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?
Leeroy: The maintenance, manufacturing, and construction sectors are really very vast and I have always worked on different projects in my experience so far. Every one of them has taught me something different. The last projects that I worked on was a turnaround involving the replacement of an 8″ pipeline and assembly of a positive displacement pump for the national natural gas operating company of Qatar prior to the start of the pandemic.
