Today, the Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals (SMRP) announced its participation in Infrastructure Week, the national advocacy and educational event taking place from May 14-21, 2018. Across the country, hundreds of businesses, labor organizations, elected officials and more will come together spread the message about why it is #TimeToBuild.
SMRP engages with U.S. government agencies to ensure that maintaining and improving critical infrastructure within the U.S. is at the forefront of policies and legislation. SMRP recognizes the importance of sound cybersecurity strategies for companies as adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) for monitoring and operating assets leads to new security challenges. As an affiliate of Infrastructure Week, SMRP encourages its U.S. members and member companies and organizations to evaluate and discuss their methods for dealing with increased risks and improving infrastructure.
“It’s important for our profession to have a voice in this discussion, and we’re proud to represent maintenance, reliability and physical asset management professionals and practitioners during this week,” said Erin Erickson, SMRP executive director. “Our members are spread across almost every industry within the U.S. and are faced with issues critical to infrastructure on a daily basis.”
Infrastructure Week is organized nationally by its Steering Committee, including the nation’s largest business, labor, and thought-leadership organizations, and is joined by more than 300 Affiliates – from the builders/operators to the users of infrastructure – around the country. During the 6th annual Infrastructure Week in 2018, the message is: The future won’t wait. Neither can we. It’s #TimeToBuild.
“We are thrilled that SMRP is joining Infrastructure Week. The dire state of America’s infrastructure is one of the most pressing issues facing us as a nation, and the benefits of a stronger, better infrastructure system will be far-reaching and long-lasting,” said Zach Schafer, director of Infrastructure Week. “During Infrastructure Week, we bring together the public and private sector to encourage lawmakers to highlight innovation and leadership, think long-term, and invest in infrastructure at the federal, state and local level.”
