Danfoss highlights innovative compressor solutions to meet energy standards and low-GWP refrigerant regulations at 2016 AHR Expo

Danfoss highlights innovative compressor solutions to meet energy standards and low-GWP refrigerant regulations at 2016 AHR Expo

At the 2016 AHR Expo in Orlando, Fla., Danfoss, a leading manufacturer of high-efficiency electronic and mechanical components and controls for air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration, industrial, and water systems, highlighted its compressor solutions to address key industry challenges, including the increasing demand and standards for energy performance and part-load efficiency, as well as regulations for low-GWP refrigerants.

This year, Danfoss is intensifying its line of compressors qualified for low-GWP refrigerants and will release new products, including a new scroll compressor range for air conditioning.

Compressors for Air Conditioning:

New range of Danfoss Scrolls with IDVs improve part-load efficiency

New Danfoss scroll compressors with Intermediate Discharge Valves (IDVs) will be available in cooling capacities from 7.5 to 40 tons and offer new features and options that deliver the most cost-effective solution for the next generation of rooftop units and chillers with R-410A.

IDVs allow the compressor to avoid over-compression losses and, thus, extra work by the motor during part-load operation—enabling Danfoss Scrolls DCJ and DSH to save energy and improve IEER and IPLV up to nine percent. Plus, Danfoss Scrolls with IDVs are backward compatible with the existing Danfoss SH range, leading to minimal redesign and implementation costs.

Leveraging Danfoss’ experience with rooftop and chiller applications, Danfoss scroll compressors with IDVs include additional tandem and trio combinations, an extension of the operating map, improved liquid handling capability, and a patented, more robust oil management method in manifolding applications.

  • DCJ 7.5-10T release: Q3 2016
  • DSH 7.5-15T release: Q3 2016
  • DSH 20-40T release: Q1 2016

Danfoss Scrolls DSH with IDVs were named an Honorable Mention in the Cooling category of the 2016 AHR Expo Innovation Awards program.

Danfoss Turbocor Compressors for ultra-low-GWP refrigerants

Danfoss Turbocor TG310 compressors combine into one package the energy and maintenance benefits of highly-efficient Turbocor oil-free magnetic bearing technology and the environmental benefits of ultra-low-GWP HFO-1234ze refrigerant. The TG310 compressor has 3 percent higher efficiency than the equivalent Danfoss Turbocor compressor using HFC-134a. Due to the high demand for the TG310 compressor, Danfoss will be expanding the TG product range from 60 to 145 tons (220 kW to 500 kW) of nominal cooling capacity in 2016. This expansion also includes qualification for other low-GWP refrigerants, including HFO blends.

Designed for water chiller applications and similar to the current TT series compressors, the TG series are oil-free, variable speed, magnetic bearing centrifugal compressors that provide outstanding full- and part-load energy efficiency.  The compressors feature a small footprint, are light weight, and offer low vibration and very low sound levels, intelligent controls and soft starting characteristics.

The ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP <1), zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) refrigerant HFO-1234ze exhibits improved energy efficiency compared to a comparable compressor model using HFC-134a. When combined with the extraordinary environmental metrics for GWP and ODP, Danfoss Turbocor TG series offers customers a new benchmark in overall operational sustainability.

Danfoss Inverter Scrolls VZH for optimum energy efficiency

Designed to deliver precise temperature and humidity control while providing the best energy efficiency in rooftop, chiller, close control, process cooling, and ground source heat pump applications, the newest Danfoss inverter scroll compressor VZH models, released in June 2015, deliver cooling capacities between 4 to 7 tons and up to 13 tons in manifold configurations, and heating capacities between 3 to 25 kW. These new VZH models in smaller cooling capacities extend the existing range from 4 to 26 tons with a single compressor and up to 52 tons in manifold configuration.

Inverter scroll compressors VZH are the second generation of Danfoss scroll compressors offering variable speed technology for commercial air-conditioning applications, and enable OEMs to create optimum systems with advanced efficiency, stepless modulation, and accurate cooling for a wide range of applications, including data centers, IT cooling, telecom facilities, offices, and industrial and residential buildings.

Compressors & Condensing Units for Refrigeration:

New range of compressors for light commercial refrigeration

Danfoss extended its range of light commercial refrigeration fractional compressors in 2015 and 2016. With the addition of the D, U, L, P, X and S platforms, Danfoss has increased its cost-competitive compressor range in both capacity and efficiency. Most compressors are available with copper connections and pre-assembled start equipment. This, together with one of the broadest—and ever-increasing— efficiency and capacity ranges in R-290 (Propane), gives OEMs and contractors alike the best solution to meet all of their needs.

Danfoss also is in the process of qualifying its MLZ and LLZ compressors for use with lower-GWP refrigerants.

Condensing units manufactured in the USA

Danfoss has re-launched its line of fractional condensing units for low temperature and medium temperature applications; the condensing units are now manufactured in the United States.

Along with a full spare parts program, the OptymaTM line of fractional condensing units for R-404A and R-134A in both 115v and 220v 1p 60Hz are specifically designed to address the needs of contractors and wholesalers in the United States and Canada. The exclusive products for this program have been selected for their high level of reliability, ease of installation, and very low maintenance requirements. With sizes ranging from 1/5 hp to 1 hp in medium temperature applications and 1/3 hp to 1 hp in low temperature applications, along with strategic stocking levels and availability throughout the North American distribution network, Danfoss is working to supply customers with the solutions they need, when and where they are needed.
