Vibration and its effect on bearing life

Pumps, like all rotating machines, vibrate to some extent due to response from excitation forces, such as residual rotor unbalance, turbulent liquid flow, pressure pulsations, cavitation, and pump wear. The magnitude of vibration will also be amplified as flows deviate from best-efficiency (Fig. 13.1) and as the vibration frequency approaches the resonant frequency of a major pump, foundation and/or connected piping.
