SEPCO Turns to the Sun with New Solar Array Installation

A leading manufacturer of sealing and aerospace components demonstrates its commitment to sustainability with new solar panel system at its headquarters in Alabama.

SEPCO, (Sealing Equipment Products Company, Inc.) a leading global solutions provider of sealing and aerospace components, has expanded its commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint with the completion of a 334.6 kW-DC/240 kW-AC solar panel system at its Alabaster, Alabama headquarters. The solar panel installation will generate 463,646 kWh of clean energy annually and allow SEPCO to eliminate 724,390 pounds of carbon dioxide emitted into the environment every year.

SEPCO Turns to the Sun with New Solar Array InstallationAt this time the system is the second largest solar power system in the Birmingham area. This clean energy project represents SEPCO’s continued efforts in deploying green energy solutions. The company already uses high-efficiency motion-activated lighting throughout its 150,000 square-foot facility; recycles all recyclable scrap materials including steel alloys and thermoplastics; and recycles and reuses all possible corrugated and paper products. The solar panel array was installed on the rooftop of SEPCO’s existing manufacturing facility, eliminating the need to build any new structures.

SEPCO Turns to the Sun with New Solar Array Installation“As an organization that is focused on helping other companies reduce their environmental impact and operate with more efficiency, we are proud to make this significant capital expenditure to further reduce our carbon footprint,” said SEPCO’s CEO, Chris Wilder. “At SEPCO, we’re doing our part to help build a more sustainable and healthier planet.”

SEPCO Turns to the Sun with New Solar Array InstallationThe installation is projected to generate more than 460,000 kWh per year. Which, according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator, is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions from 71 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven for one year or 815,598 miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle. It is also equal to CO 2 emissions from:

  • 36,973 gallons of gasoline consumed
  • 32,277 gallons of diesel fuel consumed
  • 363,542 pounds of coal burned
  • 63.9 homes electricity use for one year
  • 761 barrels of oil consumed
  • 39,969,073 smartphones charged to full power

Additionally, this total 463,646 kWh of solar energy generated per year is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions avoided by 114 tons of waste recycled instead of landfilled, 14,223 trash bags of waste recycled instead of landfilled, and 12,453 incandescent lamps switched to LEDS; as well as equal to carbon sequestered by 5,433 tree seedlings grown for 10 years. This system was designed and installed by Eagle Solar & Light, a regional leader in the Southeast in solar energy systems and batteries.
