A manufacturer of aluminum and copper wire, ingot, and other forms requires a high-pressure pump to descale copper rebar and ensure a customer that the copper drawn is completely clean. The company used a plunger pump with spray nozzles to deliver recycled water at 2900 psi (200 bar).
Although rated at that high pressure, the plunger pump would leak and experience other maintenance problems, such as pistons breaking, when the discharge pressure reached the 1305 to 1400 psi (90 to 100 bar) range.
A Hydra-Cell T100 Medium Pressure model, rated at 3500 psi (241 bar), replaced the plunger pump and operates on continuous duty. With its seal-less design, the Hydra-Cell does not leak and can handle the low-viscosity fluid. Frequent maintenance and the purchase of new pumps have been eliminated.
