California Certification Requirements for Federally Regulated Commercial and Industrial Pumps

Energy Code Ace is alerting commercial and industrial pump manufacturers to a known lack of compliance with California Appliance Efficiency Regulations (Title 20) certification requirements.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) requires that all federally regulated products sold in the state of California be certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS). Manufacturers selling or offering for sale commercial and industrial pumps in the state of California must comply with the Title 20 certification requirements or face possible enforcement action.

As of April 1, 2022, only 21 models have been certified to the MAEDbS, compared to the 17,000 in the Department of Energy’s Compliance Certification Management System.

Energy Code Ace, a program that supports industry compliance with Title 20 and the California Building Energy Code (Title 24, Part 6), can assist manufacturers throughout the compliance process. Manufacturers are encouraged to leverage the training and fact sheets linked below and to send any questions to title20@energycodeace.com.

Creating an Energy Code Ace account allows you to stay up-to-date on all Energy Code Ace offerings and Title 20 news with targeted emails.

EnergyCodeAce.com is a “one-stop shop” offering no-cost tools, training and resources to help industry professionals and consumers meet the requirements of California’s building energy code, Title 24, Part 6, and Title 20 appliance standards.
