Name: Maciej Pawelec
Company Role: Business Development Manager
Tenure with Cook Compression: 2 months
What three words would you use to describe your role?
Building, relationships, technical sales
What gets you out of bed in the morning? What are the values that drive you?
Life is the greatest miracle in the world; meeting new people and meeting new challenges are what drive me.
How do you understand your customer’s pain points, and what is your approach to helping them?
I understand the expectations of our customers because for 22 years I was a client of companies such as Cook. It is the wish of every customer to buy the best product at the best price and receive it in the shortest possible time, and I do everything I can to meet these expectations.
How did you get your start in the industry?
After graduating from a secondary technical school, I started working at the PKN Plock refinery in Poland, one of if not the largest user of reciprocating compressors in Europe. I worked in the workshop that repaired compressors, turbines and pumps – this was at a time when Poland was still under communist rule.
What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
My greatest professional achievement was building a service workshop for Hoerbiger Poland –finding the right building, renovating it, equipping it with appropriate machines and tools, and training the crew. The workshop dealt with valve repairs, HydroCom systems service and compressor repairs.
My greatest personal achievements are my children – my son, Jacob, and my daughter, Natalie.
What does a typical day look like for you? What are you currently working on?
My typical day is primarily visiting clients and preparing reports and responses to inquiries for them. I am currently working on building a strong position for Cook in the Polish market, in particular with the petrochemical sector.
What do you like about working at Cook Compression?
Working at Cook allows me to face new challenges every day. It’s a bit like building a house from the foundations up – I am excited for what it will become. We must ensure the foundations are strong and that means Cook must provide the highest quality product and meet customers’ delivery and price expectations.
The culture of the people with whom I work is one of a high level of enthusiasm for growth and a drive to be successful.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I really like sailing. I have certificate of competency as a yacht skipper, that is to operate sailing yachts of hull length up to 18 meters in all sea waters. I also enjoy cycling, skiing and rollerblading.
If you could switch jobs with someone, who would it be?
I think that if I did not do what I am currently doing then I would like to be a sailor.
