Industry Person of the Week – Samantha Moore

Our Industry Person of the Week is Samantha Moore, Petrochemical Consulting Engineer with Bryan Research & Engineering, LLC. Here is what she had to share!

Q. How did you get started working in your field?

Samantha: I grew up in South Texas on the gulf, where refineries, chemical plants, and pump jacks were never out of sight. It was something that was familiar to me and that I wanted to be a part of. My high school chemistry teacher took us for a field trip to a chemical plant, and from that moment, I made my mind up that I would be a chemical engineer. I also loved the challenge of being a woman in a male-dominated industry; it’s a constant battle upward, but I love every bit of it.

Q. What do you love most about your job? What are you most proud of?

Samantha: I am absolutely in love with my job, and very blessed to be able to say that! I ended up landing in a technical sales role, which is something I never considered, but it fits my personality perfectly. My favorite part is talking with our clients and getting to know them personally and professionally. I get to build relationships with people from very different backgrounds, countries, and experience levels. No two days in the office look the same for me!  Not only do I help problem-solve and use my engineering skills on the daily, I also get to make these genuine connections with people. What a blessing! The thing I am most proud of is being entrusted with the company’s push into the petrochemicals industry despite being new to the industry.

Q. What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?

Samantha: Embrace it and learn as much as possible! There are so many different avenues in the oil and gas industry, there is always room for growth. Never stop learning, and seek each opportunity with genuine curiosity. The best advice someone gave me was to find ways to bring value. Once you learn how to provide value to your space, success will follow!

Q. Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?

Samantha: I worked with one of our prospects on optimizing their reactor feed. They had an old catalyst and were having too much reactant slip. We spent a couple of days analyzing the data provided and were able to fit the data in our software to give us a predictive model of the reactor. With that model, we helped them optimize their feed rate and get a better understanding of how their catalyst was performing.

Q. Anything else you would like to add?

Samantha: Social media is key! Being active on social media helps you build a great network, find your dream job, and stay up-to-date on industry news! Everyone talks about creating your own brand, but nobody takes it seriously. It is so important in this day and age to have a presence on social media and show people who you are. It not only makes your more valuable, but helps people better understand who you are! Embrace the change! I challenge everyone to post something on social media today!

Thank you, Samantha! We look forward to keeping up with you through the #PumpTalk Community!
