The Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association (WWEMA) and Water & Wastes Digest (W&WD) announced the 2019 WWEMA/W&WD Scholarship Award winner at WWEMA’s 111th Annual Meeting in Litchfield Park (Phoenix), Arizona in November. Each year, Water & Wastes Digest collaborates with WWEMA to offer a $1,000 scholarship to a WWEMA-member employee or employee’s child. This year’s winner was Lauryn Polito, who is attending Mississippi State University and pursuing a degree in Environmental Science in Agricultural Systems with a minor in International Agriculture and a track to a Master’s in Business degree. Bob Crossen, Senior Managing Editor, Water & Wastes Digest and Industrial Water & Wastes Digest accepted the award on Lauryn’s behalf, as she was unable to attend. Lauryn has a parent employed by WWEMA-member Schreiber LLC.
Polito has been active in the environmental arena for many years and is a recipient of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize. As part of her International Baccalaureate Diploma requirements she researched and authored a paper on more eco-friendly and efficient ways to decontaminate hydrocarbon-filled fresh water systems. Upon graduating, she hopes to start a business that helps underdeveloped countries increase and update their agricultural production. She also has several extracurricular interests including soccer, the marching band, sustainability clubs, and several honor societies. Join WWEMA in congratulating Lauryn!
