Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) systems provide an efficient and reliable artificial-lift method for pumping a variety of production fluids from wellbores. The ESP system typically comprises a multi-staged centrifugal pump and a motor in an enclosed unit. PPE’s high quality elastomer protector bags encase the motor section of the unit, providing a positive barrier between the well fluids and the motor oil. While their primary purpose is to prevent well fluid entering the motor, the bags also act as an oil reservoir for the motor and balance the internal pressure of the well fluid. PPE offers ESP bags in various elastomer types including HNBR, FKM, and Aflas® FEPM. The choice of material depends on the application, in particular the operating temperature of the pump and the required chemical resistance to well fluids. For specific OEM requirements, PPE can undertake elastomer material development to meet test regimes and specifications. CO2 and H2S resistant elastomers are available. Manufactured in various diameters to suit the most common casing sizes, PPE also offers engineering support to provide ESP bags in custom geometries to meet pump OEM requirements.
