Pump Industry Events during Engineering Week

Engineers Week, which takes place from February 21st to the 27th, is a great time to encourage young engineers to get involved with the pump industry. Across the nation, all areas of engineering will be celebrated with special events, announcements, classes, and more. We were curious to see how companies that play some part in the pump industry would contribute to Engineers Week, so we found some interesting events and initiatives to share with you.

Engineering giant Bechtel, who is among the largest firms in the world that conducts project management and construction, announced it will continue its partnership with Engineers Without Borders, FIRST®, Junior Achievement Worldwide, and DiscoverE (the group behind Engineering Week). In addition to being a founding partner of DiscoverE, they also support the Building Future Leaders effort, provide over 200 volunteers annually, and educate more than 5,000 students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and engineering. Through their extensive efforts, Bechtel has now reached over 1.5 million students each year during Engineering Week.

On an international level, Armstrong Fluid Technology will hold a Facility Management and Industrial Service exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, from February 23rd to the 25th. The exhibition will offer a comprehensive overview of the range of products and services available in the industrial service and facility management sectors.

SUNY Canton will be holding events during the week as well in order to highlight programs in the college’s Canino School of Engineering Technology. “One of the highlights of the event will be an engineering challenge designed for children grades one to twelve. Corning has graciously sponsored the competition’s first place team with two $1,300 SUNY Canton scholarships,” said Assistant Professor Lucas Craig, Ph.D. of the school’s Canino School of Engineering Technology.

In Portland, Oregon, local chapters of the Professional Land Surveyors and Engineers of Oregon will be holding a major program that involves high school students from the community. It will consist of an exhibition, dinner, and presentations with a master of ceremonies who is a retired executive director of the California Nevada Cement Association, as well as the president of the Southwest Chapter of PEO. Engineers and land surveyors will offer information, have a show and tell, as well as a Q & A with the students.

The University of Delaware is also taking part by holding events on its campus all week long. They include student-focused events such as the Order of the Engineer Ring Ceremony, speed mentoring, a student banquet, broomball, an engineering-focused dodgeball tournament, and a Texas hold ’em math game.

Engineers across the nation are encouraged to get involved in their own community and volunteer in an educational capacity. Watch this video, made by the creators of Engineering Week – 5 Easy Ways to Make a Difference during Engineering Week.

Engineering Week has been such a great boon to the industry that even Lisa Proctor, Senior Manager of Community & Public Affairs at Fluor Corporation, has said, “Our global Engineers Week Friendly Competition connects employees across businesses, cultures, and ages with communities across the globe. It’s an annual tradition we’re proud to share.” Click here to learn more about Engineering Week.
