Empowering Brands recently began inviting people to Nominate a Pump Professional, and today’s Pump / Motor Person of the Week is Andy Bilyj, an on-site service technician at Precision Electric Motors in the Greater New York City area. Here is what he had to share:
“I’ve been working at Precision Electric for a little over 15 years, and while I did not have any electric motor / pump experience prior to starting this career, I’ve always had a love of taking things apart! I began working at Precision Electric Motors pretty much sweeping the floors, but then started disassembling scrap motors for the burnout oven. I love finding the causes of failure, and seeing if it can be fixed!
I particularly love this industry because everyday and every job is different. Onsite field service allows me to visit all types of facilities, troubleshoot, and repair rotating equipment. I particularly love the pump industry, impeller and mechanical seal evaluations. There’s something about that first look at a seal or impeller that’s been in operation for years that can tell you a story.
There’s great satisfaction in transforming a leaking pump that’s vibrating flange bolts loose into a smooth, efficient piece of equipment. I’m proud to be with team Precision; our customer service and standards are far beyond expectations. As far as advice for someone getting started in this field…It’s all about loving what you do! (It doesn’t hurt to have an amazing shop behind you). Technology changes, but as long as people want clean water coming in and sewage going out, there will always be work!”
Andy, thanks for sharing such humble and positive thoughts! Thank you for being our Motor Person of the Week!
