When you talk to people in the pump industry, you find many who have been involved with pumps and pump systems for decades. This week, Empowering Pumps is shining a spotlight on a “Pump Person of the Week” who has spent 15 years working in the pump industry.
We asked Julie Alberding, Area Account Manager at SPX Flow Inc., a few questions…
What excites you most about your job?
“I’m a problem solver by nature, so helping our customers to tame bad actor pumps or come up with new solutions to old nagging problems is extremely gratifying.”
Why do you work in the pump industry?
“I started in rotating equipment (mechanical seals) when I was in engineering school. I worked in other industries after I graduated, but that first experience is what got me recruited back into the business many years later on the pump side of things. Pumps are truly everywhere you look, so there’s no shortage of opportunity to learn and grow, and the people I’ve had the pleasure to meet and work with from across the globe make it a fantastic industry to be part of.”
What would you say to a person considering working in the pump industry?
“I would say that no matter the direction of the economy, the changing global environment, advancing technology, there will always be a need for people in our business to look for new and innovative ways to build and work with pumps in all industries. Whether they are transporting fuels, supplying drinking water or keeping nuclear reactors safe…whether they are powered by electricity, solar energy, or something we haven’t even thought of yet…pumps offer a promising future for anyone who’s interested.”
Thank you, Julie, for being our Pump Person of the Week!
