There are so many talented and interesting people working in the pump industry that Empowering Pumps is making an effort to shine a spotlight on individuals who spend their time and energy making valuable contributions within the Pumping Industry.
Empowering Pumps recently met up with a Mechanical Engineer currently working with the Arizona Public Service Company (www.aps.com), and this is what Mr. Othman Mjahed shared:
“My favorite part of my job is that I get to interact with a large population of very good people throughout the day. My duties allow me the opportunity to engage with several organizations, ranging from vendors, maintenance, and operation. There is a sense of satisfaction and pride knowing that you are part of a great organization that is bringing clean energy to millions of people in the Southwest.
The great thing about working in the pump industry is that the pump industry will not disappear. If you look around you, pumps can be found in almost any setting, location, or instrument you use. Pumps have been around for a long time, and continue to play an essential role in our society (see the hidden world of pumps).
Working in the pump industry can be rewarding and challenging, but there are plenty of opportunities to learn, expand your existing knowledge, and hone your skills. My advice to a young or new person in the industry would be to always keep an open mind, be willing to learn and seek knowledge. Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions, and be always receptive to feedback. If you do make mistakes, try to learn from them.
I would also encourage new people to the pump industry to pro-actively get engaged, read industry magazines, and attend Pump conferences (Hydraulic Institute, PUG, ASME), to not only learn about this industry, but also to network, get to know and interact with our industry’s finest.”
Thank you, Othman, for working in the pump industry and for sharing such positive feedback and encouragement to others!
