This week the world collectively celebrated International Women’s Day. A day aimed at putting a spotlight on women’s achievements, raising awareness against bias, and taking action for equality. This year’s theme was #BreaktheBias which of course is about bringing visibility to the bias or stereotypes that we have about women – both conscious and unconscious – and breaking free of those beliefs we have.
Let’s talk about biases for a second. We all have them. They’ve been ingrained in us from our upbringing and society. As we grow and become free thinkers, we are able to change our mindsets about life and the things we thought to be true. However, a lot of biases are deep rooted and even if we think that we’re above them – we aren’t always.
That’s why days like this are so important. They’re here to remind us that there is still much work to do individually and as a collective to create true equality for all human beings. Especially, ones that have been discriminated against. To encourage further commitment to helping forge an inclusive world, everyone across the globe took to activism and social media to show their support for women.
