In its flue gas desulfurization (FGD) process, a power plant produces wastewater that contains Chlorine (Cl), so it cannot meet an emissions standard. Instead, the wastewater is treated with Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) and spray-dried to turn the wastewater into powder for proper disposal.

This poses a challenge in pumping because the fluid has solids that can damage certain types of pumps. In addition, exotic materials of construction are needed to handle the special fluid. An environmental engineering firm recommended that a compact Hydra-Cell D10/G10 be installed. With its seal-less design, the Hydra-Cell D10/G10 can handle solids up to 500 microns in size. The variety of construction materials, including a Duplex Alloy 2205 pump head and Hastelloy C valve materials were another advantage for Hydra-Cell. Its multiple-diaphragm design also enables the pump to provide smooth, virtually pulse-free flow.
