Sustainability has become a trending hashtag and an industry buzzword over recent years, but what does it really mean? In the modern world, sustainability can mean a lot of different things. It can mean doing your daily part of recycling and it can also mean effecting change in national and international law. Regardless on where you are on the path of sustainability, it’s crucial for us all to play a part.
So, where do we start on this path? Recycling is one of the most common and easiest ways to contribute, but what else can we be doing to make a real impact? Something I’m implementing in my household is eliminating plastic water bottles. I live in the city, and I do not have a good taste for my tap water, so I’ve gone the easy route of buying and drinking bottled water. Instead, my Christmas present to myself (and the environment) will be a water filtration system.
The next step from that, can be encouraging our companies and law makers to implement sustainable practices into our offices and communities. Is it more work…yes. It is worth it…also yes. In this mission to adopt more sustainable practices both personally and professionally, Empowering Pumps & Equipment is launching the #SustainabilityChallenge!
As a team, we travel a lot and we know that our partners do too. We are asking everyone to participate with us this year during the AHR Expo where we will be highlighting companies who are working sustainability into both their corporate lifestyle and also into their products/services. This is an online challenge, so even if you aren’t attending the show, we encourage you to participate with us anyway and show us how you are enacting sustainability into your lives and businesses.
One of the things, as a company, we are going to do is utilize reusable water bottles while at trade shows. Another thing we do and plan to continue is to take any and all magazines and flyers home with us to re-use for later shows instead of letting them be thrown away. We can also take advantage of shuttle services instead of taking an Uber, choose hotels that recycle and offer eco-friendly options, and request that the exhibitions offer re-fill water stations. There are so many things that we can do to make a difference and even the smallest things add up. So tell us, what are YOU going to do?
