BJM Submersible Shredder Pumps Prevent Blockages

The model SK submersible shredder pump from BJM Pumps LLC, can handle a variety of difficult municipal and industrial solids handling applications including sanitary sumps and controlling chemical wastes.

The advanced technology shredder pump design can eliminate line blockages while reducing capital and operating costs. The SK series shredder pumps are designed to “shred” soft solids and debris before pumping. The shredding action is produced using a unique FangTM non-clog cutting impeller, with integral Tungsten Carbide vane tips (referred to as “teeth”); against a high-chrome “scalloped” wear plate. The cutting teeth shred solids against the pump suction plate, continuously ripping the solids apart with 360 degrees shredding action. It works on many objects that would clog an ordinary “non-clog” pump. The hardened impeller / plate materials provide maximum wear resistance for long service life.

Hardened cast iron construction stands up to rough handling and pumping gritty water. The 304SS motor housing provides both superior corrosion and abrasion resistance and will not prematurely wear out like competitive models with aluminum motor housings.

The SK motor is shielded from the pumping media by a three seal design. Double mechanical seals and a separate lip seal provide unexcelled protection. The lower seal faces are made of silicon carbide/silicon carbide and the upper seal faces are carbon/ceramic. An additional lip seal has been installed above the impeller, to help prevent abrasives such as grit, from entering into the seal chamber. Winding protection and (NEMA) Class F motor insulation allow motor temperatures to rise to 239°F, superior to pumps with Class A and B insulation. An automatic thermal switch turns the pump motor off if the temperature and/or amp draw rises too high. When the motor cools the switch will automatically reset and the pump will turn back on.

The SK Series shredder pumps are available with hardened cast iron components which stand up to rough handling and pumping gritty waste water. Competitive pumps with soft resin impellers or plastic exterior components cannot hold up in these services. The SK is offered in stainless steel for added corrosion protection in chemical sump service. The SK is also available in an Explosion Proof version for use in Class I, Division 1, Groups C & D hazardous locations.

There are SK Models from 2” – 6”, from 1 -20 Horsepower, pumping up to 911 GPM, with heads to 101 feet. To see the shredder pumps in action visit http://www.bjmpumps.com/shredder-pump-videos/. Watch this impressive video showing the BJM shredder pump devouring solids such as gloves, rags, and even a real “roaster” chicken.
