Industry Person of the Week- Brad Hitselberger

Our Industry Person of the Week is Brad Hitselberger. Brad is the Business Development Manager – Municipal at Industrial Flow Solutions.

Q: How did you get started working in your field?

Brad: I went to college for engineering and always wanted to utilize my degree but didn’t know where to start. I was very fortunate to get into the water industry at a company that gave me exposure to all aspects of marketing, engineering, sales and operations. Since I always liked working with people best, I chose the engineering sales side of things and I was able to get mentored by some very talented and smart individuals, which I’ll always be thankful for.

Q: What do you love the most about your job? What are you most proud of?

Brad: There are two things I love most about this job, it’s the constant learning and the people. Everyday I get to be surrounded by internal coworkers, customers, engineers and municipalities to learn and grow. Everyone in this industry seems to have a passion for helping out the community and driving change for the better.I am most proud of being able to impact others lives with what we are building here at Industrial Flow Solutions. We have products that are innovative and allow for creative thinking which I don’t see often in the water industry. It’s great to be a part of something to better the community as a whole.

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work or new to the field?

Brad: When I first started in this line of work, one of the best pieces of advice that I was given and like to pass onto people is: build your own personal board of directors. These are people you can trust and rely on for advice, knowledge and guidance.

Also, don’t say no to new experiences and opportunities that present themselves. There are so many different avenues in this line of work that could be fitting for you.

Q: Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?

Brad: For the past three years, a large utility has had a constant problem with their pumps running. Their application was taking the scum layer off of a secondary clarifier at their WWTP. Constant maintenance and work had to be done with what they currently had in use. To implement a solution with new technology that allowed for no more maintenance and safety upgrades was very rewarding.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

Brad: Getting young people involved in water needs to be more of a priority for all of us. Before I got in the water industry it was always an afterthought to me but I am so glad I was given the opportunity to join the water world. I would encourage others to spread the word about how great of an industry this is to new people entering the workforce because our future is in their hands!
