KSB Launches Promotion Program For Building Services

By: KSB

In combination with a PumpDrive speed control system, the SuPremE motors designed and produced by KSB satisfy all IE4 efficiency requirements (to IEC [CD] 60034-30 Ed. 2). This makes them a lot better already than what is required by EU law for 2017.

In order to make this CO2-friendly technology available without delay for building services systems, Frankenthal-based pump manufacturer KSB is launching a special promotion programme. From 1 October 2013, all Etaline variable speed in-line pumps with power ratings from 0.55 kW up to and including 18.5 kW will be supplied with SuPremE motors instead of the previous IE2 motors at no extra charge.

This way, users will start saving money as soon as their pumps are commissioned and will not have to worry about the new technology’s payback period.

The manufacturers of conventional-type high-efficiency motors achieve high efficiency across the entire load range at the cost of using permanent magnets with high power density. This has significant drawbacks for those products’ eco-balance. In addition, no recycling process has yet been defined for magnetic materials based on so-called rare earths.

Magnetless synchronous reluctance motors like KSB’s SuPremE motors constitute an economical, eco-friendly alternative. After 15 years of service in a heating or cooling circuit, a pump with a 7.5 kW motor has a CO2 equivalent of 16,550 kg, which is significantly lower than that of either an IE3 asynchronous motor (28,710 kg) or an IE4 permanent-magnet motor (17,560 kg).

No rotor position sensors are needed for operating the new SuPremE motors, either, which makes them just as reliable as asynchronous motors. In fact, their low rotor heat losses even make for a longer bearing life, and their dimensions are fully compatible with those of standardised asynchronous motors. Series-produced since March 2012, these motors, with power ratings up to 45 kW, have already proven their worth in numerous industrial applications.
