KSB, the world’s most experienced supplier of water and wastewater pumps, proves that industrial pumps aren’t always “all work and no play.” The company’s variable speed, submersible Amacan pumps provide the perfect combination of power, control, efficiency, and reliability for indoor surf centers.

These centers are becoming very popular around the world. This exciting concept has arrived in Canada with a new facility, called Oasis Surf, located in Brossard, Quebec, just outside of Montreal. Oasis Surf’s 24-foot-wide wave machine is built to provide a range of experiences. The machine can create 2-foot standing waves that are ideal for newcomers to the sport, who can learn in a controlled environment. Or, the machine can roll out bigger waves — even a 6-foot “tube” that can challenge experienced enthusiasts who want to polish their skills in the off season.

Creating a stable standing wave in a surf pool means moving water — a lot of water! At Oasis Surf, the SurfStream system from California-based American Wave Machines is powered by four KSB Amacan axial-flow pumps.

“Amacan pumps are ideal for applications with high flow volumes and relatively low heads,” remarks Joe Buckman, Western U.S. Regional Manager for KSB Inc.’s Water and Wastewater division. “They are highly reliable and deliver very good energy efficiency.” For the Oasis Surf facility, the pumps are powered by 160 horsepower motors and equipped with variable frequency drives (VFDs), which allow the pump speed to be adjusted in order to create different wave conditions.

KSB pumps are used worldwide in water parks, both for surf pools and for attractions such as slides, flume rides and artificial whitewater kayaking courses. Efficient operation and a bullet-proof design featuring highly effective seals and waterproof cable-entry systems ensure maximum uptime for operators.
