Twitter in Action

The Matthews Family

My family recently took the day to enjoy a little Bama sightseeing and basketball. After we watched “Action Jackson” in his Upward (no score keeping) basketball game, we went to Ramma Jammas for some yummy breakfast. With such beautiful weather, it was refreshing to sit outside and observe the college students roll in and out wearing their pajamas or clothes from Friday night parties. After my family savored a wonderful traditional breakfast, it was time to head to the game.

It was Alabama vs. Tennessee in the basketball game. It was a close game that seemed to last forever -especially for me; I was holding my two year-old climbing princess. One thing I noticed was a section of the stadium which had tables and chairs filled with computers. As I looked closer, I could see Twitter, Bama Online, and other blog sites in that section. I was enamored with the fact that the stadium had made a section for the media to be present and write comfortably about the event.

I was just thinking how this trend is probably everywhere, and though I am just noticing, this experience solidified the importance of Twitter to me. If I can’t go to a sporting event without a section for media peeps tweeting, then why do some think they can go all day ignoring it exists?

There IS power in posts, shares, and RTs (for those of you who are new to social media, RTs means “re-tweets”. Re-tweets happen when someone following your Twitter feed shares your tweet with their Twitter followers. RTs are a good thing!).
