Danfoss launches new energy-efficient SWRO pump – its biggest yet

Danfoss High Pressure Pumps has begun production of its biggest-yet high-pressure positive displacement pump for SWRO plants. The new APP 78 delivers up to 78m3 per hour at up to 90% efficiency, and is thus the most energy-efficient pump in its class by far. Danfoss reports that the first pump in the innovative new design has already been sold, and that there is strong interest in the pump for both onshore and offshore projects.

With the launch of APP 78, Danfoss High Pressure Pumps has increased the maximum flow rate of axial piston pumps by 80%. Now, a single APP pump delivers up to 78m3 per hour (1,800 CMD) at up to 90% efficiency. The latest addition to Danfoss’s APP range of high-pressure pumps targets the growing market for midsize SWRO plants that want to cut their expensive electricity bills.

“Wherever energy costs matter, SWRO customers are looking for ever-greater efficiencies,” says Jesper Bentzen, sales director at Danfoss. “This development is now reaching midsize plants the capacity up to 30,000 CMD. Here, system builders are beginning to discover the advantages of multiple trains based on energy-efficient positive displacement pumps. We believe our new APP 78 will be specified for more and more of these projects. There’s just no other pump on the market that combines its energy efficiency and capacity.”

“We have already sold the first APP 78,” explains Bentzen, “and while we expect the bulk of future orders to be for land-based, midsize SWRO plants, the pump’s compact design and light weight also make it interesting for offshore use where space is at a premium.”

The new pump is available in two versions, 53 and 78 m3 /hour.
